How to play Snake
Choose a round of Snake and settle into its rules. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Look at what changes after your first action.
Read before acting
Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Make the next step deliberately.
Your goal
Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Review the board or playing area as it changes.
Step by step
- Press Play to start the movement.
- Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
- Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
- Pause when needed or start a new round.
Controls
Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. A new-round button replaces the current round.
A useful example
When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Verify the rule before continuing.
Watch out for this
The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. A different version of the game may use a different rule. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
